Max's grandparents are keeping their eye on him , because they think he's at a dangerous age. Then Max goes out in the back yard and sees a moving van. He sees a lady and remembers her from bringing Freak to daycare. Freaks mothers nickname is the Fair Gwen. Then Freak spots Max and sticks his crutch at Max's heart and makes a weapon noise and says,"die earthling die."Max runs away and thinks that Freak really wants him to die.

Chapter 1
The main characters of the story are Max and Kevin. Kevin is nicknamed Freak for his knowledge and imagination. Max's nickname is kicker,because he likes to kick people instead of talking to them. Kevin was also a disabled boy who wore braces on his legs. They both went to daycare together,until one day Kevin never came again. Then all of a sudden it's like max is in 3rd grade. He lives with his grandparents on his mothers side,because his mother died. Max's grandparents don't like to talk about his dad at all,because it freaks them out.Then one day Kevin from daycare moved into Max's neighborhood.
